FSO Project - Training Package Projects
Specialist Generative Artificial Intelligence
Anticipated Commencement Date: May 2025
Anticipated Completion Date: February 2027
This training product development activity will update the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training package with new and urgent training products related to the skills needed to work with specialist AI following the Training Package Organising Framework (TPOF) (1 July 2025) process.
Project planning and establishment will include an internal FSO review of training packages and units of competency, analysis of the ICT NGA report and collation of initial work around Entry Level Pathways to provide recommendations for the direction of the Specialist AI training products.
Outputs include:
Specialist Artificial Intelligence Training products
The project may also potentially develop or refine units of competency in other Artificial Intelligence areas identified as essential or urgent.
Note: This activity will respond to the most urgent needs in specialist AI. Any other Artificial Intelligence areas which are identified as required, but which are not included within the Specialist AI activity, can be considered within the ICT Training Package Update.
For any questions related to the project, contact AI@futureskillsorganisation.com.au
Generalist artificial intelligence unit of competencies are included within the Uplift Digital Capability project.
Background Information
There is a need for nationally available training to meet both the needs of employers, learners and industry more broadly for AI skills. This would support a better understanding of AI and improve adoption of AI to support productivity.
The demand for AI skills uplift must be met more urgently to enable key cohorts, such as employers and workers, to access AI skills.
The FSO Workforce Plan 2024 and stakeholder consultations for the ICT Needs and Gaps Analysis identified an urgent and critical need for nationally available AI training to meet industry demands. Currently there is a small number of national VET products delivering AI skills; however, these products are not delivering the specialist skills required by industry.
The FSO's report Building an AI-enabled workforce: Impacts for Finance, Technology and Business Education and Training report shows that while a significant percentage of businesses use AI tools, many workers lack knowledge and would like additional training. The report highlights that AI adoption would drive significant productivity benefits for the Australian economy.
