What is DigComp?
DigComp — short for the Digital Competence Framework — is an internationally recognised system that describes the digital skills everyone needs to participate confidently in a digital world.
It was developed by the European Commission and has been adopted by education systems, employers and governments worldwide — including Australia — as a common language for talking about digital skills.
The five DigComp competence areas
| Area | Competence area | What it covers | Codes |

What DigComp skills have to do with you
The skills listed on your results page are the specific DigComp competencies that researchers and industry bodies have identified as most important for your matched career pathway — validated by the Future Skills Organisation (FSO) in Australia.
Here's the important part: these are foundational digital skills, not advanced technical ones. They're the kind of everyday digital capabilities that many people already have to some degree — and they can all be learned and developed through the qualifications shown in your learning pathway.
What DigComp is NOT saying:
That you need to be an expert before you start. None of these skills are prerequisites — they are what you'll grow into as you build your career.
What DigComp IS saying:
These are the skills that will make you effective and confident in this career — and you'll develop all of them through the learning pathway shown on your results page.
