Transfer of BSBMED Units to the HLT Training Package

Last updated: 28 April 2026

Overview

The units affected are:

  • BSBMED301 Interpret and apply medical terminology
  • BSBMED302 Prepare and process medical accounts
  • BSBMED303 Maintain patient records
  • BSBMED304 Assist in controlling stocks and supplies
  • BSBMED305 Apply confidentiality, privacy and security in a medical setting
  • BSBMED401 Manage patient record-keeping systems

Currently these units only sit within BSB30120 Certificate III in Business (Medical Administration) and BSBSS00121 Medical Administration Skill Set.

Implications for the Business Services Training Package

The transfer of these units will have the following implications for the BSB Training Package:

  • Upon completion of the review, the BSBMED units will be superseded by HLT units.
  • The superseded BSBMED units will remain within the BSB30120 Certificate III in Business – Group F Medical Administration specialisation and the BSBSS00121 Medical Administration Skill Set, until these qualifications are reviewed.
  • When the BSB30120 Certificate III in Business and BSBSS00121 Medical Administration Skill Set are next reviewed, and if there is continuing demand for a specialist medical administration stream, the superseded BSBMED units may be replaced with the corresponding HLT units of competency.

What Does This Mean for Providers?

Providers may continue to deliver the qualification and skill set as currently endorsed, in line with existing scope of registration.
