Background Information

By 2027, large and medium-sized Australian businesses must report climate risks and impacts, in line with new government rules –ASIC media release September 2024. These new reporting requirements will impact finance roles, requiring new knowledge and skills to enable affected businesses to comply with the legislation.

Improving climate disclosures will support regulators in assessing and managing systemic risks to the financial system because of climate change and efforts taken to mitigate its effects. The new requirements will impact finance roles, necessitating an uplift for skills related to disclosures, reporting, data analysis, compliance, and transition planning. There are no current units of competency that cover this content.

Impact

On completion of this project, the new compliant training products will:

  • Enable training providers to deliver in-demand skills for learners to prepare mandatory climate-related financial disclosures.
  • Equip businesses with the skills to prepare mandatory climate-related financial disclosures with accuracy and confidence, helping businesses minimise the risk of non-compliance.
