FSO Project - Training Package Projects

Sustainable Finance Disclosures

Project Overview

Anticipated Commencement Date: September 2025

Anticipated Completion Date: March 2027

This project will develop new units of competency (UoCs) in the Financial Services (FNS) training package to comply with financial sustainability reporting legislation. These new UoCs will form one or more skill sets and be placed into existing qualifications as electives.

Sustainable finance refers to accounting for Environmental, Social, and Governance reporting (ESG) with the aim of promoting sustainable development and mitigating environmental and social risks.

From 1 January 2025 there are requirements for climate-related financial disclosures for businesses with annual revenue of $50M+.

Background Information

The Australian Government has introduced climate-related financial disclosures legislation, starting from January 2025, to align with international standards. This will initially apply to large businesses with annual consolidated revenue of $500 million or more, and eventually to those with $50 million or more by July 2027. The new requirements will impact finance roles, necessitating skills in disclosures, reporting, data analysis, compliance, and transition planning. Current UoCs do not adequately accommodate these upcoming changes.

The process to update the training products will adhere to the Training Package Organising Framework (TPOF) (1 July 2025).

Consultation and Feedback

Future Skills Organisation (FSO) will develop a Consultation Strategy as part of the Project Plan. This strategy will involve various consultation methods.

The TPOF details the requirements for the process of development and endorsement including the establishment of a Technical Committee. The composition of the Technical Committee is detailed in the TPOF and must be followed to ensure representation is consistent across all training product projects.

We will call for Expressions of Interest for the Technical Committee in October 2025.
