FSO Project - Training Package Projects

ICT Training Package Update

Project Overview

Anticipated Commencement Date: July 2025

Anticipated Completion Date: October 2027

This project will update the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training package based on the findings of FSO’s previous project ICT Training Package Review - Needs and Gaps Analysis (ICT NGA) and aims to align ICT qualifications and skill sets with industry needs.

This project will update the ICT Training Package (ICT TP) to be consistent with findings of the ICT NGA. This include recommendations to:

·       meet identified skills gaps

·       clearly articulate the purpose of the training package and its qualifications

·       allow for agility and contextualisation

·       include multiple entry and exit points

·       clearly identify pathways and job role outcomes.

Background Information

The ICT Needs and Gap Analysis (ICT NGA), scheduled to be completed in February 2025, has revealed several key findings. The ICT Training Package (TP) needs updating to better distinguish between generalist and specialist skills, address urgent skills gaps in areas like Cyber and AI, and clearly identify pathways and job role outcomes. Additionally, the current ICT Training Package does not meet industry skill needs and struggles to keep up with technological changes. There is also a need for shorter, more flexible training and a common language to describe digital skills, which would help engage employers in VET and respond to workforce skill needs.

The process to update the training products will adhere to the Training Package Organising Framework (TPOF) (1 July 2025).

Consultation and Feedback

Future Skills Organisation (FSO) will develop a Consultation Strategy as part of the Project Plan. This strategy will involve various consultation methods.

The TPOF details the requirements for the process of development and endorsement including the establishment of a Technical Committee. The composition of the Technical Committee is detailed in the TPOF and must be followed to ensure representation is consistent across all training product projects.

We will call for Expressions of Interest for the Technical Committee in September 2025.
