FSO Project

Finance, Technology and Business Vocational Education and Training Workforce Activity

Overview

Background information

The VET Workforce Blueprint (the Blueprint) was developed by DEWR in collaboration with states and territories to provide a roadmap to grow, support and sustain the VET workforce.

Aligned to the Blueprint, DEWR has funded each Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) to take forward a program of work (activity) until March 2026. The JSC-led VET Workforce Activities will involve close collaboration with DEWR, Jobs and Skills Australia, industry and VET and RTO stakeholders.

These activities will research and respond to the VET Workforce challenges most relevant to each JSC’s industry needs.

How the Future Skills Organisation is approaching the Finance, Technology and Business (FTB) Activity

FSO recognises the increased importance of finance, tech and business skills across industries. This includes the need for enhanced digital literacy of the VET workforce. FSO will work with other JSCs to understand the needs and opportunities in this space.

FSO will deliver research and initiatives with significant input from VET workforce stakeholders, industry, State and Territory Governments and community groups. A Technical Committee will be established including representatives from RTOs, large employers, and peak bodies.

FTB VET Workforce Study (until Jun 2025)

The FTB VET Workforce Study aims to understand the characteristics and challenges of the FTB-specific VET workforce with a view to:

  • Identify barriers and enablers to industry participation.

  • Examine challenges, including the demand for digital skills in the VET workforce, integration of emerging technologies, and issues such as attraction, retention, succession planning, pathways and pipelines, and under-representation.

  • Gather insights on existing and past strategies that facilitate partnerships between industry and training providers.

The FTB VET Workforce Study recommendations will guide actionable solutions to address priority challenges.

Support for industry-led solutions (Jul 2025 - Mar 2026)

Depending on the findings of the Study, Activities could include action learning, piloting or scaling targeted initiatives, such as work-integrated learning models and industry-VET collaboration/integration initiatives.

The activities will aim to strengthen partnerships with employers, peak bodies, and VET providers around sustainable pathways and practical strategies for the VET workforce.

Consultation

The JSC-led VET Workforce Activities will involve close collaboration with DEWR, Jobs and Skills Australia, industry and VET and RTO stakeholders for all sectors within FSO’s remit.

A Technical Committee consisting of Members from Registered Training Organisations, large employers, and representative groups provides feedback on the strategic direction of the project.

Membership and Terms of Reference will be updated soon.
