Overview
This project will deliver an updated Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Brokingand Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Managementto increase the pool of job-ready candidates who possess the new skills and capabilities that brokers and their clients’ demand.
This project will update two qualifications, along with related skill sets and units of competency within the FNS Training Package, ensuring they are current, relevant, and aligned with industry expectations.
Outcomes:
- Update of FNS40821 Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking
- Update of FNS50322 Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management.

Background Information
In 2024 mortgage brokers arranged 75% of all new residential loans, up from 57% in 2017. Clients expect more tailored advice, use of AI is increasing, compliance requirements are tightening, and areas such as commercial lending and green finance are creating fresh opportunities.
85% of mortgage brokers hold qualifications equal to or above diploma level. However, existing qualifications no longer reflect current industry practices, and some employers are developing their own training programs and internships outside the VET system, increasing their costs.
Impact
On completion of this project, the up-to-date training products will:
- Help training providers align their finance and mortgage broking curriculum with workforce needs, boosting learner outcomes.
- Grow the pool of workers with the new skills and capabilities that industry needs, while helping employers reduce the cost of running their own training programs.
