MYOB empowers teachers to upskill and stay industry relevant
MYOB collaborates with industry partners to empower teachers and trainers with industry-relevant technology, tools, and resources to improve students’ business, financial and digital skills.
“I joined MYOB in 2017 managing a team looking after accountants and bookkeepers in WA/SA. Often the feedback from industry was that whilst students entering the industry had the required qualifications, not all students were work ready. Many practices would need to upskill new starters to get them up and running,” says Tricia Andrews, Education Manager, MYOB.
In 2021 Tricia had the opportunity to move into the education team to develop strategies to help more students succeed.
“I could see we had the ability to put the relevant technology and business tools in the hands of students by upskilling and enabling educators to further increase engagement and digital opportunities for students”.
NEW WAYS OF THINKING
MYOB connects with educators from all sectors including registered training organisations, TAFE, universities, and high schools to upskill teachers and trainers, and provide students access to up-to-date technology via platforms like MYOB Business and MYOB Academy.
“We noticed that some educators were not always using the most up to date and industry relevant technology. So, it has been about encouraging a new way of thinking and simplifying the process,” says Tricia.
“As a MYOB education partner, the resources and learning tools we provide are free. This is because it is important to help future proof and provide a better skilled workforce. Helping our training organisations upskill and access our platforms will help support and improve the broader industry overall.” MYOB started with university collaborations then moved into the vocational training space, reaching 50,000 students in the last two years across Australia and New Zealand.
“We found that sharing & highlighting the early adopters to our education program led to a domino effect and more training providers came on board. Teachers and trainers are encouraged to complete MYOB Educator certification, which counts towards their professional development and helps educators onboard their students.
BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
Now working with more than 200 educational institutions, MYOB is paving the way for industry and training partnerships.
“Partnering with other leading associations has helped scale these initiatives. For example, when we became a corporate affiliate with TAFE Directors Australia, we were able to grow our VET sector partners and students, along with other industry associations like AFAANZ, CAANZ & ICB” says Tricia.
TAFEs across Australia have since enabled 1000s of students with the aim to improve digital, financial, and business literacy. A great example is Inna Kazakevich (Teacher - Accounting and Bookkeeping) from Swinburne University of Technology – VET)
Inna was MYOB Educator Partner of the Year 2023, awarded for her progressive approach, engagement, bringing her students to networking events, holding insights sessions, and overall enabling her students to be more job ready.
Sentiment towards MYOB is overwhelmingly positive with a CSAT of 90% in their latest survey of students and educators that learnt or taught MYOB Business in 2023. Key product satisfaction drivers were also extremely positive with ease of use, setting up files, speed and performance and functionality all getting high scores.
“We run orientation sessions with the relevant team to discuss our approach in facilitating their transition to integrating our platform as a fundamental part of their curriculum” says Tricia.
"Our focus is on helping educators with how to guide their students. We make sure resources are available for them to use for ongoing learning. To help the educators stay a step ahead, we are here to guide them with updates, industry insights, events, and networking opportunities.
“We need to do the right thing by students to equip them for the future — the key is supporting our educators with the resources to do this.”
