2025 Core Skills Occupation List

September 2025

The Core Skills Occupations List informs critical labour shortages by providing a consolidated list of occupations eligible for the Skills in Demand (SID) visa’s Core Skills Pathway.  It is not a prioritised list as there are no limits on how many occupations are allowed on the list.  Also, there is no limit on the number of visas that can be granted for any one occupation under the employer-sponsored temporary SID visa.

FSO recommends 3 principles to underpin future development of the CSOL

  • Consistency
  • Flexibility
  • Responsiveness

Migration is an appropriate path for FTB occupations, given:

  • migrants make up 41% of the technology workforce, with over 90% employed in relevant occupations
  • migration flows are projected to add 258,000 workers to FTB by 2030-31
  • FTB is projected to be in occupational shortage by 242,946 workers in 203
  • new and emerging FTB occupations are driven by rapid technological evolution and the shift to a clean energy economy
